Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater DRA Night
Saturday, December 14
7:30 pm
New York City Center
131 West 55th Street, NYC

Each year Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater generously dedicates one night of its New York City Center season to benefit Dancers Responding to AIDS. This will be the 25th DRA Night at Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater’s City Center season.

Join us Saturday, December 14, when a portion of all ticket sales benefit Dancers Responding to AIDS. Your ticket purchase through DRA also includes a reception prior to the performance beginning at 6 pm in the Mezzanine Lobby.

The program is set to include:

Finding Free (world premiere)
Hope Boykin's collaboration with composer and pianist Matthew Whitaker uses Boykin’s movement-language and Whitaker’s jazz- and gospel-influenced score to explore notions of personal freedoms. At this performance, Whitaker’s score will be performed live onstage.

Many Angels (world premiere)
The expression "How many angels can dance on the head of a pin?” is a question with no logical answer. Lar Lubovitch’s first world premiere for Ailey is danced to music by Gustav Mahler. It is not really about angels. (Well, maybe a little.)

Revelations
Performed to African American spirituals, song-sermons, gospel songs, and holy blues, Alvin Ailey’s signature classic Revelations fervently explores the places of deepest grief and holiest joy in the soul.

If you cannot attend the event but would like to support Dancers Responding to AIDS, you can make a tax-deductible donation online.
